Finding Freedom Through Forgiveness

Forgiveness does not mean that what happened in your past is OK but that you no longer want to carry the weight of it with you any more.
Everyone has an ego and we all want to be right about things and feel able to blame others when things go wrong in our lives.
Forgiveness is not about forgetting what has happened to us or justifying the hurtful actions of others.

The aim of forgiveness is to help you feel free again from the burden of anger and resentment.
When we are unable to forgive others and/or ourselves, we want to punish others and/or ourselves.
When we hold onto anger and resentment, we end up running the story of something that happened over and over in our heads.
It can seem like an endless loop of negative thoughts we are stuck in and this impacts negatively on our everyday life.
When we feel we cannot let go, we create emotional and physical stress in our bodies which only causes us pain!
Forgiveness is a process, not an end result to aim for.
Take the pressure off yourself to forgive right now and see it as something you can move towards in life with practice.
If you are carrying anger towards someone, let yourself express that safely through exercise or by writing down how you are feeling.
The important thing is to safely express and release the anger and hurt you may be carrying inside.
Your body and mind will thank you for aiming to let go of the hurt.
When we are able to forgive, we are finally free from the prison of our anger and resentment.
I am not saying that forgiveness is easy- it takes daily practice and a commitment to healing yourself from what has happened in your life.
