Is the current lockdown affecting your sleep?

Has lack of sleep affected your mood so that you are feeling cranky, tired, frustrated and low on patience during the day ? Is this affecting your relationships with your nearest and dearest AND your physical health ? A recent study from Harvard found that chronic insomnia may increase the risk of developing a mood disorder, such as anxiety or depression.

Lack of sleep can also affect your ability to safely use machinery or to drive safely. None of us want to put our lives or the lives of our families in danger.

The most powerful 3 tips I can give you to help with your sleep are as follows:

  1. Stay off screens for an hour to 2 hours before bed. The blue light tells your brain it's morning time and blocks melatonin production (that’s your relaxation hormone). Also, scrolling social media and the news at the moment will not help you to relax before sleep!

  2. Keep your bedroom cool- open the window and let some fresh air in before going to bed. Research shows that a cool bedroom makes it easier for us to get to sleep. The recomended temperature is between 16 and 19C

  3. Create an enjoyable relaxation routine before bed- remember how we have a routine for children to help them know it's nearly bed time?- we need to do likewise for ourselves and we can make this enjoyable! Allow your body to wind down- maybe listen to some relaxing music, watch something funny , have an Epsom salts bath and add in some essential oi

ls such as lavender and cedarwood or a blend I use regularly called Serenity. The mineral magnesium in the Epsom salts bath will help you to relax also.

My favourite two essential oils that help me sleep soundly are Copaiba and Serenity. Copaiba is similar to CBD oil but has 2-4 times the amount of BCP compound as compared to CBD oil. It is also rigorously tested so it is safe to ingest.

I take 2 drops of Copaiba under my tongue while reading in bed and I’m out for the count in 10 minutes (I used to struggle for up to an hour to get to sleep before I discovered this miraculous oil!)

Serenity Restful Blend is a blend of relaxing essential oils including lavender, Cedarwood, Ho Wood, Ylang Ylang, Marjoram, Roman Chamomile, Vetiver, Vanilla Bean and Hawaiian Sandalwood. I like to massage Serenity blend onto my skin before bed and I diffuse it in a plug in diffuser on my bedside table also. Good news! If you are open to having some more detailed advice, I’m offering a free call to help you transform your sleep pattern so that you can feel more able to cope with life after getting a good night's sleep! Book your call on my contact form here and let me know times that suit you to chat for 15-30 minutes and I will be in touch
